However, human beings are not their diagnoses and they are not defined by their disorders.

A great overview

This book is a great overview for those who are interested in the complexities of the human personality. I would recommend this book to people who would feel as though they can connect with the subject matter and would like to know more details about the topic. This book is also a great resource for writers who are looking to make their characters a bit more complex and would like to do some research before assigning character traits to their personalities. I enjoyed the author's personal touch to his writing, as this makes it more meaningful and less of a textbook-like piece of writing. I would love to hear more personal stories from people who have been "diagnosed" with each personality disorder.

Discredits itself

I bought this to assist in practicing short story writing. I wanted a baseline general idea of different psychological issues. Anything I discovered I could use with a character, I planned to research further. The book starts with a disclaimer that it's based mostly on personal experience. (The author needs new friends.) How to tell if you're dating someone with borderline personality disorder. Really? Useful for my stories, but I don't see how that would really help a typical person seeking answers. The book seriously discredits itself with all the type-os, grammatical errors, and there are complete words missing from sentences! How can I believe something as important as mental health issues when they can't even proof read their work? I just got the book and sat last night skipping through reading here and there. Not one section I read was without simple errors. That makes me question the accuracy of the entire book. A huge disappointment.

Poor intro to tribology that's full of errors

I don't recommend this book very highly for an introductory text to tribology. First of all, this book is full of formulas, but doesn't have a single example of how to use them! Since the formulas themselves are often not completely explained, the reader is left wondering exactly how to *use* the formulas.

Second of all, I'm sure this book had no proofreader as the amount of typos and errors in formulas throughout is ridiculous. The amount of incorrect formulas makes you rather untrustworthy of using any of the other formulas in the book -- who's to know if they're correct without re-deriving everything?

For an introductory text to tribology, I recommend "Introduction to Tribology" by Bhushan. The topic is more concisely and clearly explained, the formulas have fewer issues, and there are *example problems*!

Good Standard Tribology Reference

Good book. This edition has everything needed for an introduction to Tribology. Starting with the most basic models the book works up to include multiple disciplines in analyzing tribological problems. I look forward to the next edition for the increased polish and details. I found "Applied Tribology" by Khonsari to have more detail on the topics of interest to me.

Life Before Darwin

Stocking's "Victorian Anthropolgy" proves that there was life before Darwin. The book begins with an overview of anthropological theories, both in England and in Europe, and examines how political influences determined which of these were accepted by English scholars. Fixed firmly in the context of Victorian England, Stocking clearly shows the extent to which anthropological treatises influenced not only scientific thought but also social policy. An informative and enlightening book, "Victorian Anthropology" would be particularly useful to students of British cultural and/or anthropological history.

A great book goes out of print..

I had Stocking as a professor, and we read this book in his course on British anthropology. This is probably my single favorite book on anthropology, and I can't believe it has gone out of print! Anyway, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in cultural anthropology. About the Author

Deepak Maini (Sydney, Australia) is a qualified Mechanical Engineer with more than 18 years of experience in working with various CAD software. He has been teaching various CAD software for more than 17 years and has authored the “Up and Running with Autodesk Navisworks” series of books.

Deepak is a regular presenter at Autodesk University in Las Vegas and was given the Top Rated Speaker status at AU2014 and AU2015. ATATURK by ANDREW MANGO

An excellent review of not just Ataturk's biography but the last days of the Ottomans and the nascent years of the Turkish Republic. The work cuts through the legends that have developed around this historical person as he became deified by the nation he created and presents him as a man, with his strenghts and weaknesses. Mango's perspective is clearly Turkophile. Those interested in the history of other ethnic groups like Kurds and especially Armenians will find the book disappointing. References to the events of 1915 are very scant and presented entirely from the Turkish Nationalist perspective. There has not been a good book written by a Westerner about Ataturk since Lord Kinross's classic. Mango's effort, with a more contemporary perspective, and much more detail about day-to-day events is likely to eventually rate in the same category. I would highly recommend this book to anyone deeply interested in the subject.

Now in its second edition, "A Short History of English Literature" is a very accessible piece that is perfect for those readers who did not major in literature, but want to get their feet wet. Robert Barnard does an excellent job of taking the reader on a walk through the history of literature giving helpful historical information along the way. He touches on biographical information, analyses of individual works, and helpful comparisons and contrasts between works of different authors. Also, when necessary, information about historical (i.e. cultural and political) context is given without falling into messy swamps of detail.
The reason I have given it four starts instead of five is that it lacks student friendly organization. In other words, helpful devices such as outlines, subheadings, chapter summaries, and lists of key points, are absent. The book is good, but more attention to organization would make it great.
Barnard's book is an easy-to-read introduction that can be read as you sit in your favorite armchair, sipping a cup of coffee. I have truly enjoyed it.
